Project details
- Date: October 1, 2026
- Location: Ioan Macrea Cultural Center, Gura Râului, Sibiu County
On October 1st, at the Ioan Macrea Cultural Center in Gura Râului, we continued the marathon through the Zile cu Sens – Artă în Mișcare program — an event dedicated to seniors in the community.
The experience in Gura Râului was built around theatre and stories told by young people themselves.
10th-grade students from Liceul Teoretic „Onisifor Ghibu" performed two plays they wrote themselves on the topic of cyberbullying — „Rămâne între noi" ("It Stays Between Us") and „Mai mult decât o poză" ("More Than a Photo"). Both the children and the seniors in the community enjoyed the two performances by the high schoolers, created under the guidance of acting teacher Alexandra Gavrilov. Local coordinator: Anda Ionaș, teacher.
It was a space where age differences no longer mattered, and the emotion of the stories told by young people created real connections between generations.
An initiative carried out with the support of Asociația Provident pentru Educație and Provident România, as part of the INVIZIBILII program.
Why it matters
One of the greatest distances between generations doesn't come from a lack of desire to communicate, but from a lack of opportunities for people of different ages to meet in a natural setting.
Through activities like those in the Zile cu Sens program, we create such contexts and give seniors and children access to culture. This way, they:
- step out of their daily routine
- discover new things about themselves and others
- share emotions and perspectives
Taking part in cultural experiences contributes to well-being and a sense of belonging to the community.
How it was for participants
I really like how the older kids acted! I'd like to go up on stage someday too.
Cristina, 11, student
Through these performances, with wonderful children both on stage and around it, I learned more about cyberbullying. I didn't know what it was until today. In my day, obviously, it didn't exist…
Ana, 70, pensioner
About Artă în Mișcare
The event in Gura Râului (Sibiu) is part of the marathon organized for the International Day of Older Persons, held simultaneously in 6 counties across Romania: Alba, Timiș, Ilfov, Prahova, Sibiu, and Bacău.
The Artă în Mișcare concept brings together different forms of expression — dance, theatre, music, painting — as tools through which seniors can stay active and connected.
Nationwide, more than 750 participants took part in activities built around art and social interaction.
Impact
The Zile cu Sens program creates contexts where people feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
Through intergenerational meetings, participants:
- share their experiences
- develop openness toward others
- build authentic relationships
- connect with both their family and the community they belong to
- rediscover the joy of listening to and telling a story
These programs contribute to a more connected, more balanced community.
We continue
The Zile cu Sens program continues in several communities across Romania, promoting active aging, social participation, and connections between generations. For information about upcoming events dedicated to seniors, follow Asociația POT SĂ AJUT's Facebook page.
