On October 1st, at the Merlin Theatre in Timișoara, we continued the marathon through the Zile cu Sens – Artă în Mișcare program — an event dedicated to seniors in the community.
Grandparents came accompanied by their grandchildren to the play „Sperietoarea de Păsări" (The Scarecrow), directed by Adela Moldovan — a story about patience and unexpected friendship, told from the perspective of a scarecrow forgotten at the edge of a field, who dreams of finding its purpose again.
Set design was by Marian Sandu, music by Lucian Nagy and Ștefan Olariu, and the cast included Adina Doba and Lenuța Dorobanțu.
The experience in Timișoara was built around theatre and stories, in a space where age differences no longer mattered. Local coordinator: Ana Maria Bocșan, teacher.
An initiative carried out with the support of Asociația Provident pentru Educație and Provident România, as part of the INVIZIBILII program.
Why it matters
One of the greatest distances between generations doesn't come from a lack of desire to communicate, but from a lack of opportunities for people of different ages to meet in a natural setting.
Through activities like those in the Zile cu Sens program, we create such opportunities and give grandparents and grandchildren a moment together, away from the rush and the screens. This way, they:
- live the same story, side by side
- find new things to talk about, discussing what they saw at the theatre
- rediscover the joy of going to a show together
Taking part in cultural experiences contributes to well-being and a sense of belonging to the community.

About Artă în Mișcare
The event in Timișoara is part of the marathon organized for the International Day of Older Persons, held simultaneously in 6 counties across Romania: Alba, Timiș, Ilfov, Prahova, Sibiu, and Bacău.
The Artă în Mișcare concept brings together different forms of expression — dance, theatre, music, painting — as tools through which seniors can stay active and connected.
Nationwide, more than 750 participants took part in activities built around art and social interaction.
Impact
The Zile cu Sens program creates contexts where people feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
Through intergenerational meetings, participants:
- share their experiences
- develop openness toward others
- build authentic relationships
- connect with both their family and the community they belong to
- rediscover the joy of going to the theatre together
These programs contribute to a more connected, more balanced community.
